Positions With Rising Sun
Established in September 2001, The Rising Sun Performance Company was created with the intent to provide tri-state area theatrical artists with a supportive network community that encourages and presents outlets for creation, growth, exploration and risk taking to diversify and expand beyond the traditional theatre audience. Based in New York City, The Rising Sun Performance Company is run by artists for artists to allow them to create their own opportunities instead of their opportunities creating them.
The 2003 through 2005 Seasons will include The House of Yes (Rights Pending) , Quills (Rights Pending), Dracula (Rights Pending), Right You Are (Rights Pending) , An Adult Evening of Shel Silverstein, Short and Long Form Improv Comedy Teams, A Dance Troupe, Original Full Length and One Act Plays, A Children's theatre tour, Arts Education Integration programs, Playwrights Festival, and much more.
Past Seasons have included Baby with the Bathwater, Hell Cab, An Adult Evening of Shel Silverstein, Marcus Is Walking, Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella, 6 original debut plays (including The Median Line, Irrational Dreams, Not Entirely Platonic, A Royal Toil), an 11 day theatre festival and 2 regional children's theatre tours.
RSPC accepts unsolicited submissions year round. We are a repertory company that is always in need of new talent. RSPC hires based on talent and need, we pride ourselves in showcasing fresh, fledging artists alongside of fledgling professional artists in a supportive theatre community that nurtures its artists, without biased of race, sex, religion, color or creed. We focus on talent and potential, rather than resumes and credentials. While training and experience are important aspects, and are taken into consideration; RSPC encourage new artists to apply. One of our missions is to give exposure and experience to today's new talent of tomorrow's great stages.
Auditions and interviews are normally held twice a year or as needed.
All submissions will be kept on file for at least 1 year.
Unless otherwise noted, these positions are non-paying.
Directors and Assistant Directors
RSPC has ongoing need for professional, emerging and student directors for all of their productions. Directors must be willing to work in a collaborative environment. Talent, Creativity, and Flexibility are what we look for. Submission Guidelines: Provide a letter of interest, Resume and at least one Professional or School reference.
Production Staff
Designers' only-Lighting, Set, Costume, and Sound RSPC occasionally uses outside production staff for their main stage productions. Small stipend is paid, sliding scale basis. Submission Guidelines: Provide a letter of interest, Resume and at least one professional or School Faculty Reference.
Non-Equity Performers and Unique Talent
Actors, Improv/Sketch Comedians, Singers, Dancers, Acrobats, Slam Poets, Etc Multi-faceted Performers are a plus, Theatre Background preferred. Repertory Members/Performers in addition to a minimum of 2 performance roles, also have access to free and low cost workshops/training, Creative work sessions, Lab Sessions, Theatre outings, Forums, website profile, and inclusion in a supportive community of peers.
This is a membership company - all performers must contribute or raise $25 monthly to assist in company expenses. This goes directly to the company - not to someone's wallet.
All performers must be willing to be involved in all aspects of the company, and are required to work technical positions through out the season in addition to performing. A minimum of a 3 month time commitment is required for performers.
NOTE that outside performances and work is encouraged and permitted.

AUDITION GUIDELINES: Be Imaginative, Creative and Have Fun - Show us YOU!
Please Prepare:
2 Contrasting Monologues- Contemporary preferred. Original Works encouraged.
1 Song Accapela (Optional) - Prepared Audition Pieces should not exceed 4 Minutes total.
Call backs are held the same day and consist of three parts:
1) Theatre games/improv and group warm up.
2) Cold reading from selected scripts.
3) Dancers will be given a combination.
4) Non-dancers will be given a actor friendly movement combination.
Writers/Scripts
RSPC produces all types of theatre of all genres and lengths- All types of work is welcomed. Writers retain full rights and credit for all work produced. We also workshop and do table readings as a tool for writers to hear their work out loud and continue their artistic journey. Possible Pay- Based on success of performances. Submission Guideline: Provide a cover letter, copy of script(s), Story Synopsis, Cast breakdown, and any other pertinent information.
Interns
Arts Administration and Theatre Production/Tech
Flexible hours- night or day based on your schedule- Admin. Interns will be involved in all aspects of arts administration, Grant research, Grant writing, funding proposals, office organization, promotions, bookkeeping, correspondence, filing, typing, research, phone calls, copying, etc. 3-5 hours weekly required in home office in Riverdale (230th street). Production Interns will be involved in all technical aspects of production. RSPC will provide any all letters needed for school credit and letter of reference for future jobs, etc Good for hands on experience, must be willing to work in grassroots type environment. Applicants should have interest in pursuing a career in arts administration or management or Production. Some weekend/Weeknight hours required. Eniative, dedication, patience, Flexibility and team work is a necessity for these positions. 3, 6, 12 month sessions available
